💫 Building Energy for Love — One Self Date at a Time

One of my mentors suggested that to build my confidence, energy, and capacity to call in a romantic connection with the right woman, I should schedule regular Self Dates in my calendar.
I’ve always enjoyed doing things alone — not everyone shares my interests or is available when I want to go out — so I’m comfortable seeing a movie, going to a sporting event, or exploring something new on my own.
But what exactly is a Self Date?
Here’s how my AI browser summed it up beautifully:
> “A self-date is an intentional act of spending quality time alone with oneself, treating oneself with the same care and respect one would offer a romantic partner or close friend. It involves engaging in activities that bring joy, foster self-discovery, and promote well-being — such as taking a walk, reading, pursuing a hobby, or enjoying a meal alone. The practice is not about being lonely, but about building self-love, independence, and a deeper understanding of one’s own needs and desires.”
Self Dates can be done by anyone — even couples — but they’re especially powerful for singles. I’ve probably been doing them unofficially for years, but now I’m making it a weekly habit.
This doesn’t stop me from spending time with family, friends, and social groups — in fact, it enhances those connections.
I love movies and the fantasy genre, so here are some photos from last week’s Self Date to the Harry Potter Exhibition in Brunswick, Melbourne. This week’s Self Date? A last-minute restricted-view ticket to see legendary English band Oasis!
It’s been a while since I’ve been to a stadium concert, so I’m really looking forward to it.
If you’re single — or even in a relationship — I encourage you to try a Self Date for yourself.
It’s an empowering way to reconnect with who you are, refill your energy, and open space for the kind of love and life you truly want.
